Since then, tourism in Egypt has plummeted, with officials reporting that bookings are down by as much as 90%. While there are many reasons people are hesitant to return to Egypt, safety is the biggest concern. Although some animal love travel enthusiasts still love to go to Egypt to learn about the exotic creatures in the desert.

So despite the fact that Egypt is rich in history and culture (I mean, look at those huge pyramids), many travelers shared their worst experiences when traveling to Egypt. Here we compiled the most common reasons you may want to avoid visiting Egypt this holiday season.

Nightmare-ish Political Climates and Safety Standards

Egypt has been in an ongoing political crisis since 2011 when the country’s autocratic leader was overthrown. Since then, several power struggles and military coups have led to instability throughout the country. This has translated into dangerous streets and neighborhoods where travelers could easily be targeted. In addition, police officers have been known to act with impunity, and there have been reports of travelers being arrested or harassed simply for taking pictures.

Limited Tourist Access to Iconic Sites

Although Egypt is home to some of the world’s most iconic sites, many are off-limits to tourists due to restrictions imposed by the government. This includes the Giza Pyramids, the Valley of the Kings, and other important archaeological sites. This means travelers could find themselves unable to get close enough for a good view or to explore the area in depth.

Egypt is notorious for its tourism scams – from dishonest tour guides who overcharge unsuspecting tourists to merchants who charge exorbitant prices for souvenirs. There have also been reports of travelers being harassed by street vendors or even pick-pocketed in crowded areas.
