The Colorful Life of Rio de Janeiro
Rio de Janeiro, which means January river, is the capital of Brazil. It is one of the most visited tourist attraction in South America and is known as the Culture capital of Brazil. It has been granted this title due to the abundance of museums, celebrations, music, and literature.
With a land area of just about 1,200 km, it packs about 6 million in population. It welcomes almost 2.3 million tourists per year. This numerous amount of people in combination with the famous festivities, including the samba dance, makes it one of the most festive celebrations in the world.
Tourists come into Rio de Janeiro for their festive celebrations, beaches, and of course, football. Rio is known for hosting the 1950 and 2014 World Cups and won 5 titles. Just like in the movies, Rio has been portrayed as a city where you can see people playing football, or at least has a football, anywhere.
The beaches in Rio packs different vibes. Some being the calm beach where you can have a nice walk at dawn, some with the festive and outgoing vibe, and some being the surf spots. The shores give off an orange-y color due to the reflection of the sun, which makes it the perfect place for photos.
It’s not all beach and shores, they are also known for their beautiful mountains. Corcovado mountain is best known for it’s Christ the Redeemer statue which looks over the beautiful Rio de Janeiro. It stands at 38 meters tall at the top of the 700 meters tall Corcovado mountain.

Capoeira is one of their known martial arts. It combines dancing with flowy movements, kicks and sometimes with the use of hands for punches and defense. When not utilized as a martial art, it is accompanied by music which will set the pace of the movements. The dancers, usually by pair, performs this during parades. A widely known fighting game adapted moves from capoeira and incorporated it into a Brazilian character.
Rio de Janeiro is indeed a place that boasts its rich culture but at the same time, has a relaxing vibe because of the people. People are known to be laidback and follow their own pace.
